Take Me Back In Time

Last night's episode of Mad Men inspired me to peruse the fashion web for pieces that are 60's inspired yet still up-to-date for fall. Fashions that include structured blouses, billowing A-line skirts, and dresses that show curves and not too much skin just like Peggy, Betty, and Joan wear on the show.

These pieces pay homage to the style of Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, and Jackie O. Today they are seen on the likes of Zooey Deschanel, who always rocks preppy chic to the fullest. You can't avoid the influence of the era when you come upon the collections of Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, either.

If your interested, the show also has a blog Fashion File written by Faran Krentcil of fashionista.com.

I do want to know though...is there a TV show that inspires your style? Cause I definitely found mine!

Tutti Frutti Smoothie

The summer season may be coming to a close, but it sure doesn't feel like it. The heat and sun still exhaust me after 5 minutes lounging by the pool, so I decided to make a smoothie from the comfort of my air conditioned apartment instead of making a run to Jamba Juice. Lucky for me I had the basic necessities to quench my thirst in less than 5 minutes.

3/4 cup lemonade
1 1/2 cups of strawberries
1 sliced banana
2 cups of ice
splash of milk (substitute for yogurt)

Play with what you have in your fridge or pantry. You really cant go wrong. Canned fruit, peanut butter, pudding packets, granola, milk, yogurt...there's so many options and so easy!

Guilty Pleasure Music

Cause who doesn't like to belt out cheesy pop music and reminisce about those high school days?

What's your guilty pleasure music?

Fall Frosting

Last Tuesday, I mentioned fall's fixation on plaid. Taking a leap away from boyish charm and a bit of grunge, sequins are my trend focus today. They are making a big splash within the 80's vibe and give a great homage to the disco days. It's a great way to add some flare for fun while staying classic, chic, and feminine. Whether it be on a clutch or a great sparkling dress, sequins are the frosting of the season. Have fun with it!

Keeping Busy

Photobucket
What's a girl to do when her boyfriend/best friend is off working on a film for a month? Well, I was hoping you could help me with that question. I'm a bit bummed from his absence, but I'm going to try to stay busy with...

1. Subway Scrabble
I'm bound and determined to be a winner, and hope is a great distraction.

2. Autumn cleaning
Pretty sure I should stop throwing clothes on the floor after I'm done wearing them for the day. Lots of days=no floorspace and a cluttered closet.

3. Read unfinished books.
As much as I hate having a half read book on my nightstand, I hate not loving the book I'm reading a lot more. Several people recommended Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club), but the main character is irritating, the satire is lost on me, and I keep waiting for something to perk my interest. I'd much rather read The Lovely Bones for the 3rd time...yup sounds like a plan.

4. D.I.Y Necklace
I've had this idea for a necklace for a while, but I haven't got the ball rolling yet. It's time to be crafty.

Any suggestions to help me pass the time?

Back to the Tube: Project Runway

Photobucket
I'm sure the blog world is going to be all abuzz about the Project Runway premiere last night, and I'm joining that bandwagon!

Let me dive right in. I'm happy that they chose Christopher Straub as this week's winner. The design was definitely my favorite, and a dress I would love to wear. As Nina Garcia said, it was the perfect mix of "dark and romantic."

Ari (the eliminated designer) is in la la land, and while it would have been entertaining to see her make space wear for a bit more in an attempt to prove how creative and original she is (or isn't), I'm not sure I could stomach it! Anyone else notice how much she looked like Samantha Ronson? Maybe Lindsay Lohan gave her a bad score just for reminding her of her ex-luvahhhh!

All in all, I'm excited to have the show back, and it's cool to have it based in L.A. Eager for the next episode already.

Details in the Fabric

A question was proposed in a conversation the other day, and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't know the answer. What does BCBG stand for? After a quick Google search I found the answer. Gotta love technology!

In case you are just as clueless as I was, it stands for "bon chic, bon genre," a french phrase meaning "good style, good attitude." These dresses, with classic cuts and feminine details, have that little something special that are sure to exude the brand's slogan.

Fall's Mad About Plaid

I made it back to L.A yesterday evening, and it's been difficult getting back into the swing of things. I miss the fresh air, the beautiful scenery, and being away from city life. Lucky for me, fall fashions include a plethora of plaid that remind me of my days spent in Jackson Hole and the surrounding Grand Teton National Park.

Into the Wild

It's 4 am as I write this...way too early....need coffee and I rarely even drink it.

I'm headed to Jackson Hole for my boyfriend's family reunion. Lucky for me, I get to tag along. There are a few aspects I'm a bit concerned about, however. Like the whole sleeping in a tent in the mountains...in bear country.

It was a bit of a challenge deciding what to take to the state of Wyoming, because my attire doesn't exactly meld well into the whole camping vibe. This camping thing is definitely cramping my style. Fo sho. Pretty sure the Gap isn't supposed to be your go-to-source for camping essentials.

For a city girl, I'm as ready as I'll ever be. :)

You guys have a great weekend, I'll be sure to eat a s'more for each of my followers, maybe even more.

Who Needs Diamonds When You've Got These

What girl doesn't love a good ring? I mean, it's most girls dreams to get that special "one" sometime in their life by that prince charming. Luckily for those of us not yet in that boat, we can stay satisfied with these beauties- even if diamonds may not be involved...

Over at shopbop, there's plenty of finger bling to keep me happy for quite some time :)

Special Surprises

Yesterday's birthday festivities were all unknown to me, and I couldn't have been happier with all the surprises, the cheesy oversized birthday card, and all the delicious food.

After awaking to pancakes being made in the kitchen, my birthday got off to a great start. Mid afternoon we set out for our first destination--Crumbs Bake Shop for a vanilla cupcake with strawberry icing and sprinkles.

The rest of the afternoon was spent walking and shopping around some spots in L.A for a birthday dress for our dinner at an undisclosed location. Besides a parking ticket and the heat, it was a great birthday afternoon and I ultimately found that beautiful and flirty BCBG dress for the nighttime festivities.

After a spicy tuna, eel and avacado, and a couple shrimp tempura rolls at Koi, we were back home just in time to make a quick pinkberry trip on the roommate's moped.

Cupcakes, sushi, an opportunity to get all dolled up, and froyo! It doesn't get any better than that!

It's My Birthday

Photobucket

Today's my birthday! I've been in this world for 23 years! Today's post is going to be short and sweet, but I'll be sure to document all my surprises on my special day for my Wednesday post. Also, I give you permission to eat a cupcake in my honor- one that looks equally amazing as this one.

Happy Tuesday to you and Birthday to me!

I can already smell my first surprise being cooked up in the kitchen...mm'mmm!
