On A Pie High

The other night while lounging around in my pajamas I blurted out, "I could go for some pie." To my delight I got a "me too!" followed by a light bulb going off in the head expression. Ten minutes later I was dressed and we were headed over the hill to House of Pies.

Ten minutes after getting my strawberry slice and his French apple, this is what our plates looked like.

If only our empty plates could do the pies justice. :) Here's to hoping all of you satisfy your cravings this weekend. Meet you back here on Monday!

Boyish Charm

Photobucket
Today's post features my new favorite "comfy" jeans, found at my local Goodwill for $5! My hunt for a boyfriend jean has come to an end, and I couldn't be happier it cost me the same as a Mango-a-go-go at Jamba Juice. Score!

There's nothing better than scouring through a bunch of shrunken, worn-out, and tacky clothing, and actually finding some treasures. Trust me, last time was a total bust. This time, I strolled out of there with 2 pairs of jeans and a silk Banana Republic sleeveless blouse. Items that I'm sure will make an appearance in later posts.

Handbag Girl

There's two types of girls out there...the handbag girl and the shoe girl. I happen to fall into the first category. I tend to avoid situations where high heels come into play. Sorry if i don't want to be at the same height as my 6 foot tall boo, but I like my normal height of 5'9"...err...maybe its more like 5'81/2".

Don't get me wrong, beautiful shoes call my name just the same as you, but killer handbags have a special place in my heart. Some of these might even find a place in my closet.

Head Meet Band

I'm always looking for new ways to spruce up my hair. The headband is always a great go-to solution for when you don't have time or just want to pull it back and still be chic. I love how these headbands incorporate current fashion trends from exposed zippers to bib necklace inspired beads.

Watching: The Colony

Last night I came upon an amazing new reality/survival show on Discovery. It's called The Colony, where a bunch of strangers come together to test their knowledge and specialty areas (engineering, security, nursing and many others) in a post-apocalyptic scenario. They must find their own water, food, and other factors to survive. The show is a mix of the Will Smith film, I Am Legend and Survivor. I like to think of it as a modern, gritty Swiss Family Robinson, which was one of my childhood favorites.

I was hooked within the first five minutes. Watch to see if you will too.

There's a few reasons why I love Old Town Pasadena. The combination of all of these made for a wonderful day.

Shopping Success or Failure

Come along with me as I share my shopping visit at Zara yesterday. Find out if it was a success or a failure!

Photobucket
Pros: The floral print in this dress caught my eye. It reminded me of another dress I let slip through my fingers on a previous visit, and now I have major regrets on not getting it. I call it non-buyers remorse.
Cons: This dress didn't live up to the other one. The black strip along the neckline bugged me because of the color, and it puckered because of some mess-up in manufacturing.
Decision: Not for me.

Photobucket
Pros: Loved the exposed zipper along the bust, the draping, the simplicity.
Cons: Not the most versatile piece. If I'm going to buy more black I should be able to wear it to work too. Wasn't crazy about it.
Decision: No go. It would be better suited for a club girl, and I'm not her.

Photobucket
Pros: Who doesn't love a nice boyfriend jacket? The jersey knit material got my attention right away. I can use it for work and play. They had it in my size.
Cons: The price.
Decision: Decided to pass, but will keep my eye on it. It might be another non-buyers remorse, but it's a trend that I don't see going away any time soon. This isn't the last time I'll see something similar.

Overall this shopping visit wasn't a success, but sometimes that's the way it goes. You win some and lose some, but it's always a blast attempting to find a must have piece to add to your closet. Wish me luck for next time.

It's Getting Hot Over Herrrrr

Patterson J. Kincaid is a relatively new brand to me. Bloomingdale's started carrying them about 5 months ago, and it's been a love affair ever since. Their feminine prints, basic blues and greys, and flowy tanks are perfect for my first heat filled summer in L.A....plus it's 10 degrees hotter here in the Valley.

Happy Monday

Your weekend may be over, but Mondays are when my weekend starts. I'm soaking up these California rays, and the only thing I've got on my list to do today is tidy up the apartment.

So far this is the only thing I've had the energy to do.

This is my cabana boy. I don't know his name, but I think I will call him Jorge. Unfortunately, he made the pool murky with all his cleaning, which brought my pool time to a halt. Strike one, Jorge.

Happy Monday everyone! Your weekend will be here before you know it.

Fashion For A Cause

There's something really great about fashion that lends a helping hand to a charitable cause. Signorelli is a t-shirt brand that teams up with non-profits and celebrities to bring awareness to different issues around the globe. The company does way more than that. They even put their money where their mouth is...a portion of sales go to the specific charity the tee is representing.

Here's the one I got my hands on for OmniPeace in an effort to stop violence in the Congo against women and girls.

Pizza Lovin'

I'm always on a mission to find a great pizza place, and I definitely found one in Lucifer's in Los Feliz. The best part about it is their inclusion of hot sauce on the pie. You choose the level of hotness and a pizza on the menu. We chose the Pepperoni Ultimo that includes pepperoni, red onion, green bell pepper, sliced pineapple, buffalo hot sauce and arugula.

Work Style Versus Life Style

There comes a time in everyones life where you really see the difference in your work life and personal life. It isn't any more apparent than right now as I sit lounging in my baby blue bikini. It's a stark contrast from yesterdays work attire of a black blazer and dress, all black.

This got me thinking about my awful black dress code requirements.

*All black. There is a rumor we can also wear navy and dark brown, but who wants to look like an oopma loompa or a giant turd when you can keep it simple by looking like a trash bag.
*Belts have to be black with a silver buckle. Oh! I get it. You don't want me to be able to accessorize at all.
*Close toed shoes. Which means nothing but comfy flats or a black boot in the winter.

Wearing a school uniform for all of my school life did not prepare me for the gloomy black attire I've had to wear day in and day out. At least I had a selection of colors and styles. I don't think my co-workers even know what I look like outside of black, let alone get a glimpse of my personal style.

Ladies, be thankful you get to create outfit posts from work, accessorize til your hearts content and share your style every work day! Until that time comes for me, I'll be extra colorful and style conscious on my days off!!

Happy 4th!

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July. Take a second and realize how lucky you are to live in the best country in the world. A country that allows most of you to have long weekends in celebration! Unlucky for me, I'll be working :( One more reason to get out of retail.

So, have a hot dog or hamburger for me. Enjoy those fireworks, my favorite part of this holiday. I'm hoping to catch some myself, even if it ends up being on the rooftop of the apartment building.

Here's some photos from my festivities last year.

A Look Below

There's a certain feeling you get when looking out onto an entire city. It's hard to believe that thousands of people are going about their lives down below. It allows you to slow down and really think about where you are in your life. A mix of feelings cross your mind. You may feel big while looking down on the city, but in the whole scheme of things, you are one in ...9,862,049.

Griffith Park and Observatory was a nice little getaway from my normal routine in the Valley. We are loving that area so much, in fact, it might end up being on the top of our list when our lease is up in a few months. Dr. Seuss said it best... "Oh the places you will go."

In Search of Another Sweet Treat

Photobucket

I think I've discussed my love for frozen yogurt. Love quickly turned into addiction. This picture alone is making me want to drive to Pinkberry or Yogurtland and order a plain tart with rasperries, blackberries, and mochi balls. Add in strawberries or kiwi for the self serve places. See? I already know exactly what I would order! That goes to show you how much froyo I've consumed since my discovery of it.

Alas, I came to the realization that I needed to attempt to find another sweet treat. After a scruptious roast beef panini @ Urban Eats (It's not everyday that both eaters sigh in pure delight to a sandwich), we made our way across the street to Porto's Bakery where a plethora of sweet treats awaited me and the boyfriend.

Hmmm...I wonder which one I picked.
Photobucket

Maybe the girly flower gave it away...I couldn't say "no" to such a beautiful creation. Little gems like this make me want to be a pastry chef. No self control when it comes to food might be a bit of a problem with that career choice. I would foresee 80% consumption and 20% production.
"Chelsea, where are those cupcakes?"
Me:"uhhhh." and thinking 'in my belly...'

Photobucket
Photobucket
My coconut covered cake was 3/4 whipped cream inside and a little bottom layer of vanilla cake. Add in some pineapple bits to the cream, and you've got the idea. The Oreo cheesecake was rich, that's all I can remember, because I was only allowed one bite. :)

I'm off to enjoy my Wednesday off. Hope you all have a great start to this July, and I'll see you back here tomorrow.
